Self-Image
The internal picture of who you are that silently determines which behaviours feel natural and which feel like 'not me.'
In the book's framing, self-image works like an operating system: it runs in the background and decides which actions execute smoothly and which get quietly rejected as inconsistent with 'who you are.'
Because the brain protects the consistency of self-image, behaviour that contradicts it tends to be sabotaged. This is why durable change requires updating the self-image, not just overriding it with effort.
